Plain-English definitions of the kitchen design and 2020 Flex terms that come up when you spec, quote, and order cabinets.
- 2020 Flex
- The cabinet-industry design software from Cyncly, formerly called 2020 Design. Fast Kitchen Design works in it natively for every project.
- 2020 Design
- The former name of 2020 Flex. The product was renamed by Cyncly; it is the same platform people still search for as 2020 Design.
- .kit file
- The native 2020 Flex project file. FKD delivers one with every design so you can open, edit, or re-quote it in 2020 Flex.
- LiveSpace 3D
- An interactive 3D walkthrough generated from a 2020 Flex design that your client opens from a single link, on any device, with no app.
- Render
- A photorealistic image of the kitchen produced from the 2020 Flex design, used for client presentations, showroom displays, and listings.
- Elevation
- A dimensioned, straight-on drawing of a cabinet wall showing heights, widths, and placements. Used to quote, order, and install.
- Floor plan
- A top-down, dimensioned layout of the room showing cabinet placement, appliances, and clearances.
- Items list (cabinet schedule)
- The complete bill of materials from the 2020 Flex catalog: every cabinet, SKU, and modification, ready to price and order.
- Stock cabinets
- Pre-made cabinets in fixed sizes and finishes. The fastest and most budget-friendly tier.
- Semi-custom cabinets
- Cabinets built to order with a wide choice of sizes, door styles, finishes, and modifications. The most common tier we design.
- Custom cabinets
- Fully bespoke cabinetry with effectively unlimited sizing, species, and finish options.
- RTA (ready-to-assemble)
- All-wood cabinets shipped flat and assembled on site or in the warehouse, usually value-priced.
- Frameless construction
- European-style cabinet boxes built without a face frame, giving full interior access and a contemporary look.
- Face frame
- A solid wood frame across the front of the cabinet box. The traditional American construction style.
- Inset door
- A door set flush inside the face frame for a precise, furniture-like look.
- Overlay door
- A door that sits on top of the face frame. Full overlay covers most of the frame; partial overlay leaves more frame exposed.
- Shaker
- A clean five-piece door with a recessed flat center panel. The most popular door style today.
- Raised panel
- A traditional door with a contoured, raised center panel.
- Slab door
- A flat, single-panel door used in contemporary and modern kitchens.
- Soft-close
- Hinge and drawer-slide hardware that lets doors and drawers close quietly without slamming.
- KCMA
- The Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association, whose certification signals tested cabinet construction quality.
- NKBA
- The National Kitchen & Bath Association, which publishes the design standards FKD follows.
- White-label
- Delivering designs under your brand, with no sign of the third party that produced them.
